This place is incredible
The Blue Heron Bridge is one of the few places I’ve experienced that actually lives up to the hype. Every person who dives in Southern Florida knows about this place. High traffic at a dive spot generally doesn’t help a place retain its beauty. In my own diving, I go to great lengths to avoid people as much as possible, seeking out remote and difficult to get to areas. Sometimes I’ll drive 30-40 miles by boat while navigating to that secret spot. Often, this is a pain in the ass and kills an entire day. So, when you want to go diving and don’t have all day, just go to the bridge.
Truth be told, I resisted this place for years. A girl I dated used to tell me I was a stuck-up diver, and that I didn’t understand how good the bridge was. She was right! What a fool I was. It’s amazing.
The photos are from my very first time diving the bridge and are also my very first attempt at underwater photography! I haven’t changed them for this post. They are exactly as they were after my first editing attempt. Overall, I feel good about them, but I’m happy to continue improving.
If you do go to the bridge, remember one trick to see as many critters as possible. First of all, remember to be careful around the delicate corals. It keeps them alive and you from getting a scratch. Then, just get comfortable! Don’t move too much, allow your eyes to adjust and check out all the nooks and crannies. You’ll see octopuses, tiny shrimp, and my favorite fish, the batfish.
