My first photography love was large sea critters. HOWEVER, amazing subjects come in all shapes and sizes. As my photography journey developed, I’ve noticed my eye for what makes a good picture became broader. Seeing the beauty and art in more and more parts of the world is a real gift, and a skill I am working on.
Almost a year ago, I saw this bird on a tree high above me. With the help of a 600mm telephoto lens, the colors were brought to closer focus and this became my first real bird photo. When I posted about this bird on my Instagram (@ianjeremyritter) last July, I was told by Alison Crouch (@crouchalison) this one’s called a “red-naped sapsucker”, and I thought it worth a repost.
In the coming months, I’ll be doing my best to share the adventure in a broader way. Less focused on just big style photos such as big landscapes, big animals, big sunsets and more focused on moments which were interesting and special to me.
Sometimes, the smallest of things, when looked at carefully, can be the most detailed and beautiful.
