The Land of Smiles
Thailand delivers on this promise. It is also the land of fantastic food. Delicious vittles are being cooked (by the smiling people) most anywhere you go. Even now, as I write this, I am making my plans on where to eat tonight. I’m think about another round of Thai-TakoYaki and Mango Sticky Rice, but there really isn’t bad tasting food around here.
From the street markets full of fresh produce and eggs (of every foul imaginable and then some) to endless rows of vendors selling sweet little crepes and bugs. Try the crickets, they’re quite tasty!
There is something for everyone. My best experiences were aided by trip advisor. Not so much to live and die by, just more to steer my ship a little. We all enjoy different food and drink, and a travel website that has some good insights goes a long way. Some of the best food on hand was the pad thai.
You’re probably not shocked by this considering I was enjoying the dish in the countries place of origin. I mention it was so good, because pad thai in actual Thailand is very different from the pad thai of the USA that I’ve tried. Main differences include metric fuck tons of flavor. It’s a little like the best punch in the mouth you’ve ever experienced. Tender pasta, peanut, chili, shrimp oil, chives, and about a million other things all come together in an explosion in your mouth. The whole experience is such an ordeal, it would not surprise me if many westerners did not like real pad thai. There is not a fishiness to it, but the shrimp sauce is present, and it isn’t spicy really, but there is definitely a kick. The finishing touch, was eating the fried shrimp head. This will be the new favorite thing at the next food party.
